Ministry Of Food And Agriculture Launches Food Security Programme

The ministry of Food and Agriculture will soon launch a programme to ensure the production of adequate food to feed the Ghanaian population. The programme, dubbed "Ghana's Accelerated Agriculture Growth and Development Programme", is aimed at ensuring adequate food security. This was announced by a Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mr.. Mike Akyeampong at a symposium in Accra to mark World Food Day which falls on Thursday 16th October. The symposium was organised by the University of Ghana branch of the Ghana Agricultural Students Association and the Nutrition and Agriculture and the FAO. According to Mr.. Acheampong, the programme which is in five components, is expected to be implemented in five years. Funding will be provided by the Agricultural Development Bank. He said the Ministry has appointed and trained 110 District Directors of Agriculture to see to the implementation and effective monitoring of the programmes.
