The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, has urged his subordinates to cease insulting the Ashantis amid the ongoing debate regarding their historical relationship.
According to him, discussions on historical matters should be based on facts rather than insults.
Speaking in a viral video to a group of people believed to be from the Bono community, he clarified that he has never insulted any Ashanti. Instead, he aims to correct historical inaccuracies, particularly concerning the people of Dormaa.
“My brothers in the Ashanti Region, if we say something that you believe is inaccurate, let us not resort to insults but rather engage in a factual debate. Everything I speak about is based on references.
“So sometimes, I simply want them to deny it so I can provide proof. This is not about conflict—if we are to discuss historical facts, we must speak the truth. Even the Europeans who came here documented our history, so the truth exists.”
He further urged the Bono people to refrain from insults, emphasizing the close ties between the two ethnic groups.
“What I plead for is that the Bono people should not insult anyone. We share borders with the Ashantis. My wife is an Ashanti, so in a way, I am almost an Ashanti myself. Why would I insult Ashantis? No one has ever heard me insult them.
“So, if someone makes a claim about the Bono people that is inaccurate and I respond, does that mean I have insulted anyone?” he questioned.
Dormahene has been a vocal critic of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II over certain traditional authorities, arguing that the Asantehene is not entitled to them
Despite the lack of a direct reason, it remains a fact that Dormaahene and Asantehene are not friends.
This strained relationship has been evident over the years through various instances of their supposed 'bad blood,' as reported in the media.
Dormaahene's latest criticism of Otumfuo involves a dispute over the elevation of Fiaprehene to paramountcy by Otumfuo, which Dormaahene argues is beyond the Asantehene's authority
Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II has called for unity and peace among the Bonos and Ashantis, urging both sides to engage in factual debates regarding the historical misunderstandings between the two tribes and refrain from resorting to insults or violence.
