Shell adopts safety and environmental strategies

Accra (Greater Accra), 26 Jan. '99 -

Shell Ghana Limited, has adopted "very stringent, health, safety and environmental strategies" to effectively distribute petroleum products without any hazard.

A statement in Accra today signed by Ms Joan Morson, Human Resource Manager, said Shell has engaged the services of seven contractors who have provided 183 trucks of different makes and capacities to transport fuel.

It said apart from safety regulations from Vehicle Examination and Licensing Department (VELD), Shell has also established a mechanical workshop that specialises in the repair of the brakes of tankers to reduce accidents.

It said over-aged vehicles are gradually being phased out while Shell tankers have been prohibited from travelling at night.

The statement said the effectiveness of these measures reduced accidents involving bulk fuel tankers considerably in 1998.
