Medical Students Association Holds 4th Congress

The Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association has held its Fourth Annual General congress in Kumasi. It was under the theme "Human Rights in Contemporary Medical Practice in Democratic Ghana." Addressing the Congress, a lecturer at the Department of Behavioral Science, the KNUST School of Medical Sciences, Rev, Father Appiah-Poku, said human rights are to be respected by all and sundry. He said the refusal of any medical practitioner to take care of a patient infringes on the person's fundamental right to life. Rev. Father Appiah-Poku charged medical officers to conduct themselves in a manner worthy of their profession. A Private Legal Practitioner, Mr.. Kofi Addo, called on medical practitioners to treat all patients equally. He said under no circumstance should a medical officer refuse to attend to any sick person. Mr.. Addo, however, said that facilities at hospitals must be upgraded to improve health care services in the country.
