Here's why there will be total silence, no movements in Asanteman on September 18

All residents of Asanteman have been directed to remain indoors on the night of Thursday, September 18, 2025, when the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, will be laid to rest at the royal mausoleum at Breman, Kumasi.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has ordered that Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Capital, and the rest of Asanteman fall silent in observance of Asante customs and traditions, according to a report by graphic.com.gh.

'Asantehemaa was an adorable queen of grace and wisdom' - Akufo-Addo mourns

The internment marks the conclusion of four days of Dote Yie (burial rites) for the 14th Asantehemaa, who died at the age of 98.

At the Manhyia Palace on August 21, 2025, during the one-week observance of the queen’s passing, the Asantehene’s senior linguist, Baffour Kantankyakyi, instructed that there must be no movement on the night of the burial.

“Asanteman will go completely silent. No shops will be opened. There will be no travel or human movement. The remains of our revered Asantehemaa will be conveyed to Bantama during the night. It is important that no one is met on the way, as doing so will be at the person's own peril. Late at night, the remains will be moved in solemn procession to the final resting place in Breman,” he
declared.
