Ghana is set to expand its global diplomatic presence with the establishment of three new consulates in Massachusetts, Singapore, and Dublin in 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced.
Speaking at the orientation for newly appointed envoys in Accra on Monday, September 1, 2025, Ablakwa stated that Ghana currently operates 75 missions worldwide, including 13 high commissions, 48 embassies, and 14 consulates.
The new additions, he noted will increase Ghana’s consular presence in the United States to three, complementing the existing missions in New York and Washington, DC.
“One of the key outcomes from the President’s visit to Singapore is an agreement to deepen bilateral ties and establish permanent footprints. Next year, we are set to open consulates in Singapore, Dublin in Ireland, and Massachusetts in the USA,” Ablakwa remarked.

The foreign affairs minister explained that the decision follows longstanding appeals from the Ghanaian diaspora in the United States, who have argued that the New York and Washington missions are insufficient to serve the country’s expansive community.
“Ghanaians in the US have long raised concerns that New York and Washington cannot continue to represent a 58-state country. President Mahama has therefore approved the opening of a new mission in Massachusetts,” he added.
