Mensah Sarbah hall wins Legon athletics competition

Legon (Greater Accra), 23 Nov. 1998 -- Mensah Sarbah Hall scored 124 points to win the second TTB/Joy FM University of Ghana inter-hall athletics competition held at Legon at the weekend. They were followed by Legon Hall with 105 points. Akuafo Hall came third with 93 points, while Commonwealth Hall took the fourth position with 41 points. In the ladies' division, Legon came first with 99 points, Akuafo, second with 93 points, while Sarbah came third with 86 points. Volta placed fourth with 64 points. John Asibi Ali of Sarbah Hall won the overall best athlete in the men's division, while Patricia Mensah of Akuafo came out tops among the ladies. For their prizes, Sarbah took home an amount of 300,000 cedis and a giant trophy. Legon had 200,000 cedis, while Akuafo received 100,000 cedis. The ladies had the same prizes. Ali and Patricia were given 500,000 cedis savings accounts for being the best athletes. The two-day competition, organised by the university, was jointly sponsored by The Trust Bank and Joy FM Radio. Mr Isaac Owusu Hemeng, General Manager of Corporate Services of TTB, said his company is working out modalities to give insurance to competitiors in future competitions. Professor Ivan Addae Mensah, vice-chancellor, appealed to corporate bodies to help develop infrastructure on the campus.
