'Kofi Ghana' pledges to construct Surgical Ward

Kumasi Aug. 22, GNA - Mr. Maxwell 'Kofi Ghana' Jumah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa constituency has pledged to construct a 300 million cedi surgical ward for the Kumasi South Hospital to help boost its status as a Regional Hospital.

The MP, who made the pledge on Monday when he presented five air conditioners valued at 32 million cedis to the Hospital during an inspection tour of the hospital expressed dissatisfaction about the state of infrastructure development at the hospital saying, "it only looked like a health post."

Mr. Jumah, who personally provided the air conditioners said they were to increase air circulation in the hospital to make patients and staff comfortable.

He said the surgical ward project would be financed by the HIPC fund and assured the staff and management that he would help with funds from his share of the common fund to support other projects next year. "I will also liaise with the Ministry of Finance, Civil Society and philanthropists to generate enough funds to support the development of the hospital," he added.

Dr. Frank Abebrese, Medical Su perintendent in-charge of the Kumasi South hospital who took the MP round the hospital thanked him for the donation. He said, it had come to inspire them to deliver quality health care to patients.

Mr. Jumah later inspected roads under construction at Kaase and expressed concern about the state in which some utility providers like the Ghana Water Company and Ghana Telecom had dug trenches across some roads and left them uncovered.
