Eleven people are suffering from various degrees of injuries following a frightening head-on collision at Eduadjei on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway on Tuesday evening.

The crash, which occurred around 7:30 PM, involved an Opel Astra with registration number WR 4860-13 and a Nissan mini bus with registration number CR 1414-23.

The Opel Astra was reportedly travelling from Cape Coast towards Komenda, while the Nissan mini bus was heading in the opposite direction, from Takoradi to Cape Coast, when the two vehicles collided.

According to the Central Regional Fire Service, the impact left ten passengers in the Nissan mini bus injured. The group, made up of eight males and two females, was rescued by passersby who rushed to the scene moments after the crash.

They were later conveyed to the Elmina Polyclinic for medical treatment, the statement said.

It added that the driver of the Opel Astra was not as fortunate. He became trapped in the wreckage of his vehicle following the collision, prompting a delicate rescue operation.

Fire personnel worked carefully at the scene to extricate him before he was transported to the Elmina Polyclinic by the National Ambulance Service.

Witnesses described the aftermath as chaotic, with twisted metal scattered across the highway and traffic building up as motorists slowed down to catch a glimpse of the scene.

Rescue teams reportedly eventually cleared the debris from the road to restore traffic flow and ensure safety at the accident site.

Officials say the cause of the accident has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
