Kotoko, Enyimba test run new stadium

ENYIMBA FC of Aba and Ashante Kotoko of Ghana will test their might this weekend in an international friendly organised by the Lagos State Sports Council. The match is to commemorate the newly completed Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

The State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Barrister Opeyemi Bamidele, who announced this at a press conference also rendered his account of stewardship in the last four years. He was excited that the stadium at last, has been completed and is ready for commissioning.

He said, “the completed Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, is to be commissioned on the 25th May, 2007, by the Governor of the state, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and to accompany this commissioning, we are staging a Lagos State Youth and Sports Classic, a non-competitive championship among local governments in the state”, adding that, “this three-day event holding from 23rd - 25th May, 2007 attracts lots of activities. Thereafter, there would be an International match between Enyimba Football Club of Aba and Ashante Kotoko of Ghana.

As a count down to the handing over to a new administration, an elated Bamidele was pleased to note that his administration was able to accomplish most of the things it lined out to achieve.
