‘Celebrity lawyer’ Dr. Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has revealed Ghanaian footballer Asamoah Gyan and his team tried to set him up in the impending brouhaha brought against Asamoah Gyan.

Speaking on Neat FM in Accra, the lawyer who acted on behalf of the complainant, Sarah Kwablah in the early stages of the case, said all the parties (Asamoah Gyan’s lawyers, Anim Addo, himself and three other lawyers) involved vowed to solve the case amicably and keep it out of the media.

However, things turned sour when Asamoah Gyan’s aides run insults on him (Lawyer Ampaw) and Sarah Kwablah’s family after they made a request of a $1000 each month and a 9 month apartment renewal till the girl delivered.

“Lawyer Kissi asked me to tell Sarah Kwablah and his family that we were not involved in a business venture and that if I dared, he would press charges against me for extortion because we wanted to extort money from Asamoah Gyan and that we could go to hell….He also said they were powerful in this country,” he added.

Speaking on Osarfo Anthony’s alleged setup and arrest for blackmail, the lawyer said he pitied the journalist because he did not think and act smart.

“I advised him to be very careful just when he decided to talk to Anim-Addo because I knew they could set him up.”

The lawyer also revealed that the same team tried to set him up by using an entertainment host on Radio XYZ and another person who claimed to be Asamoah Gyan’s aide by calling him into a meeting.

“They called me several times for a meeting, and I asked them to meet me at St. Martins Hotel where they brought a huge monetary offer, so I convinced Sarah to drop the case…They also asked Nana Anthony, who is Asamoah Gyan’s brother-in-law to set me up which failed.”

Lawyer Ampaw says he feels sorry Kwablah, who had a good case from the start.

“Sarah Kwablah did not take my advice as her lawyer... I told her that she was dealing with dangerous people, she’s dealing with people who have money and know how to manipulate the media so she should be cautious, but she never listened.”

Sarah Kwablah has vowed to resume the proceedings immediately after mourning her deceased father.
