West African Gas Pipeline project on course

Construction work on the West African Gas Pipeline project, which is now in its definitive stage, is expected to take off in the next two years.

As a first step, the West African Power Company (WAPO) will be established at the end of this year to over see activities geared towards the commencement of work. According to the External Affairs Manager of the Project, Miss Ester Cobbah, the External Affairs group consisting of personnel from Ghana, Nigeria Togo and Benin are expected to adopt pro-active efforts at creating awareness of the project among stakeholders and communities, to enable them to appreciate the project. She added that due to the complex nature of the project, educational materials and strategies are being developed to educate the general public and other countries to appreciate the project. The Gas project, which involves the development of an 800-kilometer pipeline from the Oilfields in the Western Delta of Nigeria will cut across Benin, Togo and Ghana.
