Group holds vigil for Montie FM panelists

A group calling itself 'Friends of Montie FM and the Two Panelists’ will on Monday July 11 hold a night vigil to show solidarity with the station and two men who have been dragged before the Supreme Court to answer for contempt on Tuesday July 12.

The vigil starts from 9pm to 10pm.

Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn, who were panelists on ‘Pampaso’, a political programme on Montie FM in Accra on June 29, warned judges of Ghana’s highest court to be wary of their conduct in the case involving the Electoral Commission and Mr Abu Ramadan if they did not want to suffer the fate of the three members of the bench who were shot to death and burnt on June 30, 1982 in the era of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC).

Mr Nelson has communicated his apologies for those comments but Mr Gunn has denied ever being in the studios of the station on the day that the alleged threats were issued.

The two as well as the host of the show, Mugabe Maase, have been summoned to appear before the apex court on Tuesday July 12 for making such threats against the judiciary.

However, Friends of Montie FM and the Two Panellists, in a statement signed by its convener Patrick Asford Boadu, has appealed to the court to “temper justice with mercy in the case to ensure a peaceful atmosphere ahead of the electioneering campaign”.

“We are of a strong belief that as a result of apologies rendered by the three, the court will caution them to ensure decorum and sanity on the airwaves across the country towards the November 7th presidential and parliamentary election,” the statement added.
