Govt to assist deprived schools with 200 buses

The deputy minister of education, Hon. Kwame Ampofo Twumasi has announced that plans are far afoot for the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) to support less endowed schools in the country with 200 buses before the end of her second term.

This, the deputy minister said will include the upgrading of physical structures in the beneficiary schools. He expressed optimism that with the proactive measures put in place the poor academic trend in most second cycle institutions in the country particularly those in the rural areas is likely to improve.

Hon. Ampofo Twumasi made this pronouncement when he presented a 33 seater Tata bus to the Busuyna secondary school in the Nkoranza district of Brong Ahafo region. Addressing a colourful ceremony, he pointed out that the bus will go along way to solve the transport problem facing the school, adding that it has come at an opportune time.

The minister entreated the teachers in the school to give out their best because the role of the chalk fraternity towards Ghana’s education cannot be over emphasized. He pointed out that any negative attitude on the part of teachers in Ghana will surely have adverse effect on the nation’s formal education, there by paving the way for bleak future.

According to the deputy minister though the government is doing her best, that alone cannot solve the numerous problems facing the education sector without support from individuals in the various communities. He continued that the crusade for quality education must be seen as a shared responsibility involving all well meaning Ghanaians both at home and abroad.

Hon. Ampofo Twumasi who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza south personally donated hundred bags of cement to the school for the completion of her dining hall.

The minister later presented a four wheel drive pick-up to shalom special school also in the district.

The Nkoranza district director of education, Mr. Agyemang Badu reiterated that the top most priority of the ruling government is to improve teaching and learning because education is the prerequisite tool towards socio-economic development and should be seen as such by all, irrespective of one’s political affiliation or social belief. He revealed that with the structures put in place by the president Kufuor led NPP administration on assumption of office about five years ago, teaching and learning in deprive schools have really improved. Mr. Agyemang Badu lauded the government for distributing the national cake evenly.

The education director said following the assistance giving to schools in rural communities they are now rubbing shoulders with the well endowed ones. He said Nkoranza district being one of the beneficiaries has now moved from her 106 position on the national calendar to 48.

The paramount chief of the area, Okataklyie Agyemang Kudom IV expressed his profound gratitude to the government describing the donation as a historic one worth commending by all educationists in the district.
