Soccer-Faisal beat Professionals 1-0

Kumasi, Sept. 26, GNA - A goal scored five minutes inside injury time by right winger Massaudu Yahaya gave King Faisal a hard 1-0 victory over Liberty Professionals in their ABC Golden Lager Premier league soccer match played at the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Sunday.

After Sunyani-based FIFA referee Samuel Bisi had whistled for the end of the match, which travelled six minutes into extra time, dissatisfied Liberty players heckled him and he had to be rushed by policemen into the dressing-room. Liberty, who played a determined game, proved unyielding, ending the first-half of the match, which attracted only a handful of spectators, scoreless.

Faisal, after the break, went all out but wasted a chance in the 51st minute when Nuru Ahmed missed the target narrowly. In the 64th minute, Faisal goalkeeper Sampson Appiah Kubi dived to his left to save a blinding shot from advancing Dzifah Asamoah of Liberty.

The two teams wasted scoring chances, notably among them were when substitute Joe Agyeman of Faisal shot wide in the 67th minute and skipper Bastious Foster of Liberty rounded the defence of Faisal in the 73rd minute but shot off target.

When the match seemed destined for a draw Masaudu Yahaya struck five minutes into injury time to win the day for the homesters. Dawu Youngsters beat visiting Afienya United 1-0 in their match played at Dawu.

The only goal was scored by inside left Justice Opoku as early as the second minute. Afienya played a good game but failed to take advantage of the chances that they created, especially in the 36th minute when left full back Dennis Cudjoe, with only goalie Yusif Dan Lardi to beat, decided to give a pass to a team-mate who shot off target from close range.

The visitors kept Dawu under pressure and fought hard for the equaliser but poor shooting up front denied them a goal till the end. Centre forward Abass Iddrisu scored a hat-trick to propel Real Tamale United (RTU) to a 4-0 victory over visiting Bofoakwa Tano in their match played at Tamale.

RTU were 3-0 up at half time through two goals by Abass and one by outside right Bobby Abdul-Raman. Abass opened the scoring for RTU in the fifth minute when he connected home midfielder Stephen Oduro's cross. Abdul-Raman made it 2-0 in the 25th minute from a free-kick taken outside the vital area of Bofoakwa. Abass was again on target when he out-jumped Bofoakwa's goalie Damba Mohammed to head home the third goal for RTU just before the break.

Immediately after the goal, Bofoakwa replaced keeper Damba with Losina Ahmed. RTU increased the tally to 4-0 in the 55th minute when Abass finished off a two man-move between himself and Oduro to score his hat-trick and to seal the doom of the visitors . The match between Okwawu United and visiting Obuasi Goldfields ended abruptly in the 80th minute at the Nkawkaw park when the visitors refused to continue.

Okwawu were awarded a spot-kick by Class One referee Jospeh MacCarthy of Cape Coast when left full back Princeston Owusu Ansah of Goldfields handled the ball in box. In the course of Goldfields protest against the referee's decision, the crowd started throwing stones onto the field, forcing police on duty to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd.

The game was held up for about 20 minutes and when everything was cleared for the match to resume, Goldfields refused to continue, claiming that most of their players were injured in the confusion.

Earlier in the 35th minute, a goal scored by outside right Kwasi Kyeremateng for Okwawu was disallowed for an offside. At the Sekondi Gyandu Park, Kumasi Asante Kotoko scored a 1-0 away win over local Hasaacas while Ghapoha F/C and Power F/C settled for a 1-1 draw in their match at the Tema Sports Stadium.
