Asantehene will continue to support education programme

Atwima-Agogo (Ash), April 19, GNA - The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will continue to support educational programmes to improve the level of education in the country, Oheneba Adusei Poku, Akyempimhene, has said and urged stakeholders, especially chiefs, to support this initiative.

The Akyempimhene was speaking on behalf of the Asantehene at a fund raising rally organized by the chiefs and people of Agogo in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district on Easter Sunday.

He praised the chiefs and people for coming together to organize the programme aimed at improving their living standards and urged them to keep it up.

Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, District Chief Executive for the area, also lauded the people for ending a 14-year chieftaincy dispute in the town. He expressed the hope that more development projects would be initiated as a result of the amicable solution of the problem in the community.

The DCE said the assembly would use part of its funds to construct a public toilet for the people.

Nana Okyere Poku, chief of the town, said the town had started constructing an eight-bedroom teachers' bungalow for the JSS at an estimated cost of 44 million cedis. He said the Atwima-Agogo sub-traditional council had drawn up a five-year development plan, which involves the construction of a block of three classrooms, a library and an Information Communication Technology centre in the town. An amount of 57 million cedis, including pledges of 22 million cedis was realized at the function.
