Ghanaians abroad urged to register with embassies

Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hanna Tetteh, has urged all Ghanaians living outside the country to register with the various embassies in order to make it easier for them to be reached in times of difficulty.

According to Ms Tetteh, although some Ghanaians have resorted to the media to make their plight known to attract help, that alone will not be enough to draw the attention of the appropriate authorities to come to their aid, hence the need to register with the embassies.

The Foreign Affairs Minister tweeted on the evening of Saturday July 16 that: “Wherever we have an Embassy, the first port of call for our citizens in distress should be the Ghana Embassy in their country of residence.”

“Calling a radio station in Ghana when an event happens may make for a great news headline, but is not the fastest way to get you help”.

“Our Ambassadors and Staff at our missions are there to help the Ghanaian communities abroad. Register with them and help them to help you”.
