Active Session Continues On Stock Exchange Market

Accra,(Greater Accra) 24 Oct. Trading on the stock market finished the week still active, but on a drastically low volume with six price appreciations against two losers, helping to sustain market gains. The GSE All-Share index was 2.62 points better at 485.13 points, up from Wednesday's 482.51 points. Reflecting current trends, the breweries and manufacturing equities continued to attract investors' interest, even though the total volume of shares changing hands was a meagre 54,810, compared with the 387,520 sold on Wednesday. Shares offers of 367,540 were far lower than demand of 8.7 million. On the broader market, Aluminium Works (ALW) sustained its vibrant rally, leading gainers with 95 cedis up to 2,300 cedis. Mobil Oil Ghana Limited (MOGL) climbed 25 cedis to 6,525 cedis, while Guinness Ghana Limited (GGL) rose 19 cedis, to close at 640 cedis. Others were Pioneer Aluminium Factory (PAF), which gained 14 cedis to 170 cedis, Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), seven cedis up at 695 cedis, and Super Paper Products Company (SPPC), which moved five cedis up at 125 cedis. Pioneer Tobacco Company (PTC) and Patterson Zochonis (PZ) were the two decliners, losing four cedis at 390 and one cedi to 329 cedis respectively. The cedi this morning opened with a gain of ?5.00 over the dollar, it went between ?2,240.00 and ?2,270.00 while it maintained its value against the pound sterling, trading between ?3,550.00 and ?3,600.00. Against the Deutsche Marks it traded between ?1,270.00 and ?1,300.00. The rate of the cedi against the other foreign currencies is:
