Ghanaian judges have now become subjects of ridicule in restaurants and homes in the country following the corruption scandal that has rocked the judiciary, President John Mahama has stated.

According to the President, the expose’ by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has massive effect on the reputation of the various arms of government and even the Media.

“The Anas video has provoked all kinds of salacious conversations and discussions both in private and in the media, and our judges regrettably have become the butt of jokes in chop bars and restaurants,” Mr. Mahama stated during the commissioning of a new court complex in Accra on Friday.

He added: “This menace affects all segments of our society. The Executive, the legislature, the media, the judiciary, traditional rulers, health facilities and indeed the list is endless.

“….But two things in the present judicial affair give me cause for hope. First, I am positive and I believe that there are many judges with a high sense of integrity and this is borne out again in the same Anas investigation. Anas revealed that in the case of ten justices, he was chased out and threatened with Police arrest”.

The President also noted that he will give the Chief Justice all the needed support in order to ensure that sanity is restored to the judiciary.

So far thirty-four judges and 146 judicial service staff are being probed for their various alleged roles in compromising justice as captured in the video evidence by Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team.
