Ghana’s aviation sector continued its strong post-pandemic recovery in 2025, with the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) reporting a total of 3.625 million travellers across international and domestic routes.

Managing Director of GACL, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, disclosed the figures during the 5th AviationGhana Breakfast Meeting held in Accra on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

She noted that the 2025 numbers represent a significant increase from the 3.4 million passengers recorded in 2024.

Airlines bemoan $100 charge on return tickets from April 1.

“2024’s total passenger numbers were 3.4 million in and out of Accra, both international and domestic. Now in 2025, we are at 3.625 million, so there has been a significant increase in passenger numbers. The trajectory has grown since the COVID-19 pandemic, when we didn’t have any passengers coming through,” Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare explained.

She stated categorically that Ghana has now surpassed pre-COVID passenger levels, describing the achievement as a turning point for the industry.

“We are at a good place. And this is why we have to introduce some of the expansions that we are implementing, to accommodate the passenger numbers coming into Ghana,” she added.

The GACL boss further clarified that while certain health-related concerns remain under the purview of the Ministry of Transport, her organisation is focused on managing the operational implications of rising passenger volumes.

With expansion projects underway, GACL aims to ensure that airport infrastructure keeps pace with demand, positioning the country to handle even greater volumes in the years ahead.
