President John Mahama says he is optimistic Ghana will emerge champions in the World Cup in June this year, in spite of any challenges that will be encountered.
He has, therefore, invited all Ghanaians especially the Diplomatic Corp to register to cheer the Black Stars in Brazil.
President Mahama threw the open invitation at a reception with members of the diplomatic Corps at Peduase Lodge near Aburi.
“We are thrilled that the Black Stars of Ghana will be playing at this year’s World Cup in Brazil. Our qualification and participation is a great joy to millions of people, not just in Ghana, but many millions across the world.
“My government and the people of Ghana are giving the Black Stars team all the necessary support to enable them bring back the ultimate glory no matter the challenges and the opposition they may encounter in Brazil,” President Mahama said.
The Black Stars will be making their third straight appearance at the Mundial and expectations from a majority of football fans in the country is that the Black Stars would improve on its quarter final place in South Africa in 2010.
According to President Mahama, “we believe the team is capable and Ghana can win the World Cup, we must win the World Cup and bring this glorious trophy back home to Ghana”.
Ghana is drawn in Group G in the World Cup and will be facing Germany, Portugal and USA.
The Black Stars would begin camping in Rotterdam on the 25th of May, 2014 and play matches against Montenegro, Netherlands, Costa Rica and Honduras before arriving in Brazil on the 10th of June, 2014.
