Bus Lanes Created in Accra

The Ministry of Roads and Transport has designated the outer lanes of all the major roads and highways within the city of Accra to be used as bus lanes. The move forms part of the ministry's programme of facilitating the reintroduction of the mass transportation system in the urban areas in the country. Some of the roads which have been marked include the Liberation Road, Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, Kojo Thompson Road, High Street, the Ring Road, Kaneshie-Odorkor Road and the Independence Avenue.

The public buses are required to keep to the "bus lanes" and avoid the unnecessary changing of lanes that could result in accidents.

Motorists and members of the public are required to take note that buses have the right of way in the "bus lanes" and must therefore no stand on the designated roads. The plan is also aimed at making passengers board and get off buses conveniently.
