GNAT Not On Strike

Accra, Oct. 26, GNA -- The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on Thursday condemned some of its members urging teachers to go on strike saying the Association had neither declared a strike nor was it urging its members to join any strike action.

"The GNAT is negotiating for comprehensive salaries and schemes of service for all categories of teachers," it said in a statement signed by Mr Joseph Kwaku Adjei, National President.

The negotiations are ongoing and have not developed any hitches. It advised teachers to focus on their professional duties while they awaited the outcome of negotiations 93which should hopefully be concluded by the first week of November".

"We urge all to be resolute and notify the appropriate authorities without hesitation where they feel threatened or intimidated,=94 the GNAT Leadership said.

Some members of GNAT in various parts of the country have followed members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) to embark on strike to press home demands for improved salaries and conditions of service.
