GNA Suspends News Transmission To Ghanaweb

Ghanaweb to respond on Thurday
Accra, Nov. 19, GNA - The Ghana News Agency was on Tuesday November 11 compelled to suspend its news transmission to the Ghanaweb, an online media, for what it considered to be unprofessional handling of its stories.

The GNA views with grave concern the manner in which Ghanaweb has been rehashing its stories, giving it slants that twist their meaning. Such actions by Ghanaweb have tarnished GNA's hard earned reputation given the many calls it received from members of the public.

In July, Ghanaweb carried a news item purported to have come from Overlord of the Dagbon Traditional Area, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani. The story caused the GNA great embarrassment and distress.

The GNA protested to Ghanaweb and reported it to the Ghana Police Service, which is investigating the source of that story. Ghanaweb later apologised.

Again on Tuesday, November 11, Ghanaweb doctored a GNA story on: "Calm Returns To Teshie Cluster of Schools" to read: "Kufuor's Mother's Need For Blood Causes Outrage" and posted it on the "Toli Column" of its website, thus changing the import of the story.

This, the GNA viewed to be highly unprofessional and the Editorial Conference was, therefore, compelled to suspend transmissions to Ghanaweb pending a review of the subscription agreement.
