MP identifies education his as priority area

Nkoranza (B/A), April 26, GNA - Major (rtd.) Derek Oduro, MP for Nkoranza North has identified the promotion of education in his constituency as his priority in the area.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Nkoranza, Major Oduro, however, stressed that he could only achieve this vision by encouraging parents to further the education of their children in senior secondary and tertiary institutions. He expressed regret about the increasing number of school dropouts and teenage mothers in the area, which he attributed to poor parental care and poverty.

The MP noted that many people in the district's depended on small-scale farming for their livelihood and promised to solicit financial support from non-governmental organizations for the people to improve their economic activities.

Major Oduro said plans were underway to organize unemployed youth in the area into groups for agricultural and other income generating activities, including food and cash crop cultivation, livestock, poultry, bee keeping and mushroom farming. "I will try my best to seek support for brilliant but needy students in the constituency and encourage them to pursue higher education", he added.

The MP called on assembly members, unit committees, traditional authorities and religious leaders to join hands and organize the people to initiate development programmes to improve their living conditions.
