The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has suspended its ongoing recruitment exercise at El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra until further notice, following a deadly stampede that claimed six lives on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
According to GAF, the decision was taken to ensure the safety of applicants and to allow for proper coordination of the recruitment process moving forward.

The stampede occurred after thousands of young Ghanaians thronged the stadium in a desperate attempt to enlist.
The overwhelming crowd and intense jostling at entry points sparked chaos, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities.

The military confirmed that six people died, while 28 others were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. Of these, five are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 12 remain in critical condition.
The tragic incident occurred amid an extended recruitment period announced by the Ghana Armed Forces.
The exercise, initially scheduled to close on October 31, 2025, had been extended by one week due to technical challenges on the recruitment portal.
