The founding president of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has criticized former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta, calling him "heartless and careless" over his handling of state funds and his current legal troubles.

In a social media post on February 14, 2025, Franklin Cudjoe asserted that Ofori-Atta had misappropriated US$58 million from state coffers, funds that could have been used to construct a modern hospital. Instead, he said, the money was wasted on a "fake cathedral" that never materialized, forcing the former minister to seek medical treatment abroad after his tenure in office.

“The only comment I will make about the former finance minister's predicament is that he was very careless and heartless. Had he invested the US$58m he plundered from state vaults into building a modern hospital, he needn't run to the clinic in the US for treatment. US$58m sunk into a needless pit in furtherance of a fake cathedral that never became,” Cudjoe wrote.

On Tuesday afternoon, a group of individuals dressed in military uniforms stormed the residence of Ken Ofori-Atta in Cantonments, Accra.

The former finance minister was out of the country at the time of the raid. The motive behind the incident remains unclear.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared Ken Ofori-Atta a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations, including allegations tied to the controversial National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML).
Speaking at a press briefing on February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced that Ofori-Atta is now officially a fugitive from justice and must return to Ghana immediately to face questioning.
“The former minister must cooperate with the ongoing investigations. Failure to do so will result in measures being taken to compel his return,” Agyebeng stated.

The Special Prosecutor also denied reports that his office was responsible for the raid on Ofori-Atta’s home, instead suggesting that the former minister orchestrated the incident to mislead the public and discredit the OSP’s investigations.
