Frank Acheampong not bothered by defensive duties at AFCON

Ghana winger Frank Acheampong has no problem playing at left-back at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. The Accra-born has been a beneficiary of an injury to first choice Baba Rahman, who suffered a setback in the opening day victory over Uganda. The former King Faisal attacker has been Avram Grant's choice since his first half introduction for Baba, and is expected to retain his role when Ghana face Cameroon in the semi-finals on Thursday.

"I won’t say [left-back] is not my normal position; I just have to adapt and play.We have to adapt all the time as footballers and it’s not easy, although sometimes, it comes as a surprise. Previously, I had to attack before defending but now, it is vice-versa.I have had to defend and attack as well, but the other back four have helped me out." Acheampong told Daily Graphic

Having failed to win the Afcon since 1982, the Black Stars are hoping to claim their fifth title in Gabon, following a final shootout defeat to Cote d'Ivoire two years back.

“With our experience, we’ll move forward with our ultimate aim which is to win the trophy,"I’ve been there before, it’s not something new. We went to the final with Cote d’Ivoire, but lost, so we’ve psyched ourselves that this is the time to end the 35-year wait, and it’s time God wants us to lift the cup." Acheampong said

Acheampong plays for Belgian giants Anderlecht.
