Four individuals narrowly escaped tragedy when a National Ambulance Service vehicle from Nkawkaw somersaulted multiple times at Afosu in the Birim North Municipality of the Eastern Region on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service on October 12, 2025, the New Abirem Municipal Fire Station received a distress call at approximately 2:30 pm, prompting a seven-member rescue team, led by LFM Tenkorang Ofori Prince, to respond swiftly.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the ambulance, bearing registration number GV-567-20, suffered a brake failure, causing it to overturn and land on its side while transporting a patient.

According to the statement, all four occupants of the vehicle were successfully rescued and rushed to the New Abirem Government Hospital for medical treatment.

“The fire crew cleared blood stains from the road and salvaged vital medical items, including a fire extinguisher, ventilator, cardiac monitor, chest compression device, stethoscope, and telephone. The Ghana Police Service assisted in directing traffic,” the statement added.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service were also present to manage traffic flow and assist with ongoing investigations into the cause of the crash.
