NDC complies with court injunction

Ada-Foah (Greater Accra) 27 Oct '98 The fourth biennial conference of the Greater Accra regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) could not come on as a result of an injunction filed at an Accra High Court by two members of the party.

Dr Quartey Papafio, the regional chairman told the delegates of the 22 constituencies who had gathered at the Ada-Foah Secondary School that Mr Stephen Anak from Madina and Mr Christian Ago Vanderpuije from Ashaiman, filed an ex-parte motion for an interim injunction on October 23, which was upheld.

He said since the NDC is a law abiding party it could not hold the conference, adding that ''we are to consult the national executives to see how the issue will be dealt with, and hopefully the court case will be hotly contested next Tuesday''.

According to Mr Anak and Vanderpuije, there was inadequate notice for the conference to enable interested members of the party to file their nominations for positions which violates the party's constitution and their human rights.

They also said the regional executive contravened article 17 clause 3a of the NDC constitution which states that five delegates from each constituency are to vote during the conference. Mr E.T. Mensah, national organiser and MP for Ningo Prampram accused the reformed group within the party of initiating the court order, and called on the members to unite so that "we can win the elections in the year 2000''.
