The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jr., has described former President John Agyekum Kufuor as the only leader from the Danquah-Busia tradition who, in his view, won an election freely and fairly.

He made this assertion while commenting on the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) nationwide “Thank You Tour” during an appearance on Metro TV on April 29, 2025.

According to him, the tour, which appears to be stirring a lot of controversy, may not achieve the reconciliatory effect for which it was intended.

He therefore called on the current leadership of the NPP to seek counsel from experienced party stalwarts such as former President John Agyekum Kufuor and economist Kwame Pianim, among others, to help resolve the escalating crisis within the party.

“I met Kwame Pianim in prison in 1986. Even while in prison, he was looking for ways to advance the progress of the NPP. He has worked tirelessly for the party. He is available for consultation. He is well advanced in age, very healthy, sober, and articulate. Kwame Pianim is a reasonable person, so they can turn to him for advice.

“What is preventing the experienced economist Pianim from taking center stage in the rebuilding of the NPP?” he asked.

The veteran journalist also mentioned former President John Agyekum Kufuor as another formidable figure the NPP can rely on to help resolve its internal wrangling.

“Take it or leave it, former President John Agyekum Kufuor is the only leader from the Danquah-Busia tradition who won an election free and fair. He was even able to form an alliance with hostile political forces like the CPP. He is available for consultation in rebuilding the party,” Pratt said.

He urged the NPP to urgently seek the wisdom of experienced party members to salvage the party from its current crisis.

Pratt’s call comes in the wake of the withdrawal of key party figures such as National Chairman Stephen Ayensu Ntim and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, from the tour.
