Ex-Ghana Airways CEO Responds to GA Board chairman

Dr. E. R. K. Dwemoh
Chairman,Board of Directors,
Ghana Airways,
Accra.

Dear Dr. Dwemoh,

I have today received your letter dated 9 March 2004 (no reference given) informing me of a Board Resolution of the 13th of February 2004 calling for the termination of my appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Airways.

I find the letter most irregular.

You will recall that there was a Board meeting held on February 12, 2004 at which I was present. The possibility of another Board meeting on the 13th of February 2004 was never made known to me either before or during the meeting of the 12th of February 2004. At no time has the Board given me the chance or the opportunity to answer to the charges that were leveled against me which, you claim, resulted in the unanimous resolution calling for the termination of my appointment.

During my tenure of office, none of the allegations mentioned in your letter, were raised with me, or discussed in any Board meeting.

The letter, and the recent media campaign of slander against my name and reputation, is indicative of a conspiracy to tarnish my image.

I fully reject the contents of the letter. I hereby ask that it be withdrawn and that I be given an opportunity, to which I am legally entitled, to defend myself against the wild, spurious and unfounded allegations.

In the light of recent events and your leaking the contents of your letter to the press, it would be impossible for me to continue as CEO of Ghana Airways even though I am calling for the withdrawal of your letter.

I am seeking legal advice regarding the next steps I should take in respect of your action that I consider to be, among other things, wrongful dismissal.

Sincerely,

PHILIP OWUSU
