Embrace Ghana’s ‘beautiful’ culture - Osei-Owusu

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, has entreated Ghanaians to be proud of their cultural heritage.

He noted that some Ghanaians, especially the youth, are neglecting their culture and rather embracing that of the West.

Mr Osei-Owusu who is also the Member of Parliament for Bekwai, said this in an interaction with Adehye FM's Elisha Adarkwah at the final funeral rites of late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwah Ampem II, in Kumasi, on Thursday, 7 December 2017 when he led parliamentarians to mourn with Asantehene Otumfou Osei Tutu II.

The final funeral rite was attended by high profile personalities from both home and abroad.

Some of the dignitaries include President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and wife; Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Trade Minister Alan Kyeremateng among others.

The foreign dignitaries included Norwegian Ambassador to Ghana, Gunner Holm; the Italian Ambassador to Ghana, the Danish Ambassador among others.

Mr Osei-Owusu, while consoling the Asantehene, described the nation's culture as beautiful and, therefore, called on the youth to embrace it.

For his part, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu advised Ghanaians not to forget their cultural heritage.

Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II was the mother of the Asantehene. She died at the age of 111 after she reigned for 39 years.
