Old Students of Lawra Secondary commend President Kufuor

Wa, Aug. 3, GNA - The Old Students Association of Lawra Secondary School (LASSOSA) has commended President John Agyekum Kufuor for selecting the School for upgrading under the Government's policy to upgrade a number of schools in the country.

The Association said apart from providing adequate dormitories and classes for more students to be admitted, the upgrading had also provided a Science Laboratory, a Computer Laboratory and a Home Science Block, which were initially either dilapidated or non-existent. These were contained in a press release Mr Mohammed N. Kpedau, President of the Association, signed after some members of Association had paid a visit to the School.

LASSOSA also commended some of the contractors for executing their projects at the stipulated time and appealed to those yet to complete to expedite action to make the students comfortable. Mr Kpedau said the upgrading system would not only increase admission of students but would make it attractive to staff posted to teach there.

He appealed to the Government to consider motivating teachers to stay in schools so that their investment would yield dividends. "As you all know, it is a common knowledge that much as the development of physical structures are essential to the improvement of education, these alone do not make a good school. The exercise would be incomplete if we do not touch on the motivation and remuneration of our most respected teachers."

Mr Kpedau appealed to the Government to assist the school with a bus and a pick-up to solve the transportation problem of the school. They also commended Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister, for his regular visits to the school to get first hand information on how the projects were going on.

Lawra Senior Secondary School and Wa Senior Secondary School were the only two schools selected for the first phase of the programme in the Upper West Region.
