Ho Police averts violence at Winners Church

Ho, July 8, GNA- The Ho Police are guarding the premises of the local branch of the Winners Chapel, following a misunderstanding between members on Wednesday, over the impasse between the Ghanaian dissenting Bishop, George Adjeman and leaders of the religious body in Nigeria. Mr Nicholas Belwushie, Ho District Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday that the Police were compelled to disperse the feuding members.

However, a member of the Church who witnessed the incident said the incident was of no significant threat to security.

The lady, who spoke to the GNA on condition of anonymity, said a delegation from Accra believed to be acting on behalf of Bishop Adjeman, came to explain to the Ho congregation, circumstances that led to the stalemate between the Bishop and the Church hierarchy in Nigeria. She said a section of the Church members, mainly the youth did not take kindly to the mission of the group and asked the delegation to tell Bishop Adjeman to leave the Winners Chapel alone to form his own church. "Tempers flared up during the exchanges and the Police were called to restore order."

The centre of controversy is the alleged role of Bishop Adjeman to stop the transfer of huge sums of money from the Ghana Mission to Nigeria, which sparked the stalemate, which is threatening the unity of the Church in Ghana.
