The arrest of 11 illegal forex bureau operators is the lead story in the Times. The story, under the headline: "Illegal forex bureaux...11 operators arrested by Kumasi police", says a combined team of Ashanti Regional Police and officials of the Bank of Ghana, at the weekend, arrested 11 people in Kumasi for operating forex bureau without licence and transferring moneys without authority. The Graphic says they were later granted police inquiry bail to report twice a week until investigations are completed. The paper mentioned the culprints as Grace Obeng, Paul Amoako, Mark Tomford, Abdulai Hamid and Owusu Acheampong. The rest are Gifty Acheampong, Kwadwo Adu-Gyamfi, Barudin Sumaila, Robert Owusu, Mohammed Aminu Seidu and Obeng Asante. GRI

"Casuals have same rights as permanent staff - Chief Labour Officer", is the headline of another front page story in the Times which says casual workers are by law, entitled to the same facilities and benefits enjoyed by permanent workers, The Graphic quoted Mr. Alex Gyabi, Chief Labour Officer, who was commenting on the engagement of casual labour in Ghana and their service conditions. Mr. Gyabi said casual workers are entitled to contributions towards social security, payment of minimum wage and other conditions of service including leave after working 200 days. GRI

On its back page the Times reports that a public forum to encourage the active participation of private investors in the plastic recycling plant project, is to be held in Accra on September 24. Under the headline "MEST to host forum on plastic recycling plant", the Times says Mr. Ben C. Eghan, Chief Director of the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology (MEST), who disclosed this in Accra yesterday, said the forum will among other things, afford individuals and stakeholders in the waste management industry the opportunity to contribute meaningfully in the management of plastic waste in the country. The forum, he said, will further seek to create a congenial atmosphere and opportunity for private investors to play active role in the implementation of the project.
