Man Wins 221.5m cedis on the Lotteries

A 63-year old businessman broke the national lotto record by winning 221-point-five million cedis in a National Weekly Lotto draw for the last week of the year 1995. The man who pleaded anonymity said he staked two numbers (66-17) with an amount of C2.5 million from different agents of the Department of National Lotteries.. The Deputy Minster of Finance, Mr Victor Selormey presented to the winner the cheque on behalf of the department .

He said the department of National Lottery is regarded by government as an important source of revenue. For example, last year DNC contributed five billion cedis to the national income. Mr. Selormey called on private lotto operators, to use their profits for the cause they claim they stand for. The businessman who has also won 33 million cedis from a private lotto organisation called Asare Original Pay-All said he plans to invest the money in real estate development. His winning is the biggest since the inception of lotto in the country. The previous highest win C117 million which was won two years ago by a Kumasi-based businessman.
