Doctor Suggests Establishment Of Adolescent Clinics

Kumasi, Dr Thomas Agyarko of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, has advocated the establishment of Adolescent Clinics as a means of effectively dealing with the high incidence of sexual reproductive problems among the youth. In addition to such an initiative, separate consulting rooms solely for the handling of youth with sexual reproductive health ailments should be provided at the country's hospitals. Dr Agyarko was speaking at a symposium organised by the Ashanti Region Branch of the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) under its Family Life Education Project for out-of-school youth in the Kumasi Metropolis. The programme, under the sponsorship of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), was attended by more than 600 youth made up mainly of Dressmakers, Tailors and Hairdressers. Dr Agyarko was optimistic that it is only when such an arrangement is adopted that the youth would feel more confident to patronise hospitals for the correct diagnosis of their diseases for treatment.
