Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network has given over GHC500,000 worth of airtime to the country’s political parties.
The package will allow political parties to reach out to their supporters on air, TV, online and in print. Management said it is the network’s support towards the promotion of multi-party democracy and peace during the December polls.
Speaking Monday at a ceremony to announce the package to the political parties, the Chief Operating Officer at EIB Network Limited, Klaus VonBackustein said the gesture was in tandem with the vision of the network.
He said the EIB Network is “here to impact lives in society and we think that this is our time to also support you, give you airtime…to support your activities” in the build up to the forthcoming elections.
The EIB Network, he added will have the airtime quantified and be presented to the parties individually.
Delighted by the gesture, the Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Perry Okudzeto said, he has never witnessed any private broadcasting house provide free airtime to political parties in the bid to promote multi-party democracy.
“Unless of course, it was done before I started this practice,” he said, adding that “in my experience I haven’t seen a private broadcasting house give this magnitude of airtime.”
On behalf of the other parties, he expressed their profound gratitude to the EIB Network.
