Kingston tops them all

Cologne, June 18, GNA - Richard Kingston, Ghana's Number One goalkeeper has made the highest number of saves in the World Cup competition which, is fast heading to the end of the group stages. The goalkeeper has pulled 14 spectacular saves to top the summit of goalies.

Kingston has conceded two goals in two games but leads the pack with his great saves that ensured the Black Stars loss by fewer margins to Italy in their Group E opener last Monday and stayed winner in the match against the Czech Republic in Cologne on Saturday. He is followed by Aldo of Paraguay and Hislop of Trinidad and Tobago with 13 and 12 saves respectively.

Kingston has proven to be one of the Stars strongest links in the team so far with great performance game after game.

Against Italy, the goalkeeper, one of the oldest in the team twice denied Luca Toni and Francesco Totti a glaring opportunity to score with great saves on one-on-one encounters.

He was also in his elements in the game against the Czechs with spectacular saves apart from the two he expertly dealt with in the closing embers of the game to deny Libor Sionko and Jan Polak chances of pulling their team even.
Kingston made only one appearance during the team's qualifiers when he kept the post in the first game against Burkina Faso, which the Stars lost 2-0.
The Turkey based player though did not form part of the team that got kicked out at the Group stage in the Nations Cup in Egypt in January. He made the most of the opportunity offered him when given the chance to keep the post in some build up games prior to the Mundial. With maturity, composure and experience as his hall mark, the goalie soon assumed the number one status so often occupied by talented Sammy Adjei with continues impressive outings.
Baring any unforeseen change, the goalkeeper is expected to stay as the number one as long as the team stay in the competition, which spans a month.
Kingston, a few days to the opener struggled with a slight knee problem, which initially raised concerns about his ability to keep the posts.
But once he got the fitness clearance from team Doctor Martin Engmann, the player has not looked back.
