The presidential nominee of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom has indicated that declaration of results by the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) is a ‘mere’ electoral formality.
According to him, there is absolutely nothing wrong if journalists project winners of elections ahead of the electoral body.
Dr Nduom and other candidates who contested in the presidential race have individually congratulated Nana Addo based on the provisional results provided from December 7 polls.
But defending his stance as to why he could not wait for the EC to declare results on Ghone hosted by Nana Aba Anamoah and Kafui Dey, he retorted ‘you know the EC declaring a winner is a formality’.
The two main political parties have declared victory but Dr Nduom explained that his party and those describing the move ‘unfounded’ would have acted same.
‘…keeping hope alive we would have done same, so I won’t blame NPP or NDC for holding press conferences, that is normal and human nature. it is also normal for media people and independent observers or political parties to take a look at the results, because the results are there, they have the pink sheets and know what is happening at the collation centers and polling stations for anybody who wants to add them up to do so. Anyone of us can add them up and see the sign,’ he explained.
He expressed hope that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate will be declared the winner adding ‘in my view and what the numbers have been telling me, it’s a victory for Nana Addo, if am wrong so be it’.
