Committee To Resolve Empasse In New Juaben Assembly Set Up

Koforidua, (Eastern Region) 3 Oct.,

The Eastern Regional Security Committee (REGSEC) has set up a five-member committee to probe the controversy between the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. E. Adu Boateng and some members of the Assembly. The committee, under the chairmanship of Nana Adjei Tuffuor, Krontihene of the New Juaben traditional area, has 14 working days to submit its report on the dispute which led to a motion of "no confidence" in the Municipal Chief Executive, by some assembly members. Inaugurating the committee, the Eastern Regional Minister, Miss Patience Adow said the REGSEC was convinced that if immediate remedial measures were not taken, the assembly would "gradually become ungovernable". She recalled the dissolution of a District Assembly in the Region a few years ago when it was clear that it had become ungovernable. She expressed the hope that the assembly members and the public would cooperate to make the work of the committee easy. Nana Tuffuor gave the assurance that the committee would work conscientiously to justify the confidence reposed in the members. Other members of the committee are representatives of the Regional Coordinating Council. the Police, Ghana Education Service and the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited.
