Dumsor: Mahama’s govt must be truthful – Yvonne

Actress, Yvonne Nelson has urged the Mahama-led administration to be truthful to Ghanaians on the current energy crisis.

The award-winning actress, who on Tuesday announced the date for her upcoming event dubbed ‘DumsorMustStop Vigil’, told Citi News that government cannot continue to lie to its citizens.

She added that the vigil is not an agenda to satisfy a particular political party but an initiative to ensure that Ghanaians are not taken for granted.

According to her, she has decided to stage the vigil now because the several promises by government officials to end power crisis popularly known as dumsor have failed.

Ghana has been grappling with power crisis for close to three years now. The country currently sheds between 450 and 650 megawatts of power during off-peak and peak periods.

Government officials have on several occasions failed to deliver their promises on when the power crisis will end.

The first of two power barges the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) contracted Karpowership of Turkey to supply as part of the long-term measures to address the current power generation deficit would arrive in September after earlier promises that the power barge was expected in April this year.

Yvonne Nelson is presently leading a campaign on Twitter with the trending hashtag #DumsorMustStop.

The hashtag has received a lot of support from Ghanaians on Twitter with celebrities like Sarkodie joining in.
