A former Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, Dr Eric Oduro Osae, has responded to circulating reports that his title as a ‘Dr’ has been deemed invalid by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and that he should desist from using it.
According to him, he has not received any official communication from GTEC instructing him to desist from using the title, despite the reports.

In a statement dated October 27, 2025, and signed by him, he stated that even if such communication exists, it would be appropriate for it to be made through the proper channels so that he can respond accordingly.
“My attention has, this morning, been drawn to a letter circulating on social media, purportedly issued by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), alleging that my terminal degree is invalid and directing me to desist from using the said title.
“I wish to state categorically that I have not received any such letter from your outfit. Should such a communication exist, I respectfully request that it be made available to me through the appropriate official channels, to enable me respond appropriately and take any necessary steps to exercise my rights under the laws of Ghana,” he said.
Dr Oduro Osae affirmed his belief in the country’s rule of law and added that he would take the necessary steps to defend his rights.
“Please be assured that, as a lawyer and a firm believer in the rule of law, I will take all lawful measures to protect and exercise my rights in this matter. While I continue to support the GTEC in fulfilling its statutory mandate, I will not hesitate to defend my rights before any court of competent jurisdiction should the need arise,” he concluded.
Dr Osae’s response comes on the back of a graphiconline.com.gh report published on October 26, 2025, which stated that GTEC, through its Director-General, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, had directed him to cease using the title “Dr” in any form.
This reportedly follows Dr Eric Oduro Osae’s submission of official documents to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to validate his use of the academic title “Dr.”

GTEC reportedly determined that the joint Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Economy he obtained from the Universidad Central de Nicaragua (UCN) and the Doctor of Political Economy degree he earned from the Swiss Management Centre (SMC) University in Switzerland in 2015 and 2016, respectively, are both invalid.
The report also added that GTEC wants him to remove the titles from official documentations, any public or professional materials among others.
