A former Member of Parliament and Founder of the Ultimate Women Foundation, Dr Freda Akosua Oheneafrewo Prempeh, has appealed to First Lady Lordina Mahama to intervene and ensure justice for two young sisters, aged five and seven, who were allegedly defiled by a 47-year-old man at Bawku in the Upper East Region.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com, she made the remarks in an interview at Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region on Thursday, November 6, 2025.

Dr Prempeh expressed worry about the incident and appealed to the First Lady to intervene.

“As a mother, the First Lady must ensure that the suspect is punished, and the victims and their families get justice,” she said.

Dr Prempeh called on women’s coalitions, NGOs, child rights groups, the Department of Social Welfare, CHRAJ, and the gender ministry to follow up on the case and push for the suspect’s prosecution.

She noted that defilement and abuses against girls remain among the gravest human rights violations hindering their development, urging the government and civil society to take stronger action to protect children, especially in conflict-prone areas like Bawku.

“It is pathetic that security agencies appear to be doing nothing about it. I appeal to the First Lady herself to seek justice for these innocent victims,” she added.

The suspect, identified as Sulley Fongo, reportedly defiled the two girls in an incident that has sparked public outrage and left the victims and their families traumatized.
