Newly-appointed Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Asoma-Cheremeh, has cautioned illegal small-scale miners (galamseyers) not to rejoice over the reshuffling of his predecessor John Peter Amewu because he will be strengthening the fight against their illicit trade.

The former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister said the fight against galamsey is a government initiative and not one individual’s idea, and, so, he will continue the work left behind by Mr Amewu.

President Nana Akufo-Addo reshuffled his ministers on Thursday, 9 August.

Mr John Peter Amewu is now heading to the Energy Ministry where Mr Boakye Agyarko was recently fired.

Speaking on Accra FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson Friday, 10 August, Mr Asoma-Cheremeh assured Ghanaians that he was going to continue all the works Mr Amewu started.

“I will continue from where Amewu left off, and, so, anybody rejoicing that Amewu has been removed should stand well because I will continue the fight against galamsey.

“The fight against galamsey will rather be strengthened under my watch, we will follow the law to ensure that the president’s vision of protecting the water bodies and the environment is achieved.”
