One of the legal representatives of Paul Adom-Otchere, Lenin Anane Adjei, has disclosed that the arrest and detention of his client by the Office of the Special Prosecutor forms part of calculated attempts to gag journalists.

According to lawyer Anane Adjei, Adom-Otchere, a journalist, has been targeted by the Special Prosecutor following his continuous scathing criticism of the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.

In an interview with CitiNews, Anane Adjei stated that the OSP's decision to deny his client bail and the dynamics surrounding his detention set the tone to prohibit journalists from interrogating critical issues.

He said, "We find what the OSP has done completely out of place, unprecedented, and no well-meaning Ghanaian should endorse it, especially for journalists, because it is setting the tone to get people to keep quiet when issues in respect of their operations come up for interrogation."

This sentiment, expressed by lawyer Anane Adjei, is directly linked to the work of his client, who is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience.

On his "Good Evening Ghana” show on Metro TV, Adom-Otchere has remained critical of the activities of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and, particularly, Kissi Agyebeng, who is the Special Prosecutor.

Paul Adom-Otchere has mostly subjected the operations of the OSP to critical scrutiny on his show. He has raised chiefly critical questions about the activities of the office and the man, Kissi Agyebeng.

For instance, Adom-Otchere took the Special Prosecutor to the cleaners in 2023 when Kissi Agyebeng mentioned that some senior lawyers had admonished him that criticism of the bench would lead to his cases being thrown out.

Reacting to this, Paul Adom-Otchere described Kissi Agyebeng as someone dangerous to Ghana's democracy.

"Did you hear him? Well, does he know what well-meaning people have told me? Well-meaning people have told me, but I don't believe that Kissi Agyebeng takes money, but I don't believe," Adom-Otchere alleged.

Paul Adom-Otchere charged the SP to address the issues of corruption allegations that he alleged were mounting against Kissi Agyebeng.

Paul Adom-Otchere has been a sharp critic of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng and subjected almost every move by the OSP to strict scrutiny on his "Good Evening Ghana" show.

His lawyer believes that the OSP has targeted him (Adom-Otchere) because of his sharp, scathing criticisms.
