In a statement issued on its official X page on Saturday, September 21, 2024, it said, "The Ghana Police Service has monitored attempts by the Democracy Hub demonstrators to frustrate and put impediments in the way of commuters and other road users.
"We are urging the demonstrators to desist from such uncivil, unpatriotic, and unghanaian acts depicted in the images and videos and allow the general public to go about their businesses without any hindrance."
The police further assured the public that officers had been deployed across the city to ensure law and order.
"We would like to assure the public that more police officers have been deployed across the city to manage the traffic and ensure security, law, and order," it stated.
The protest commenced this morning at the Liberation Road Roundabout despite objections from the Ghana Police Service on the route for the 3-day protest.
The protesters have been burning party paraphernalia of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the middle of the road, accusing some officials of being complicit in the illegal activities in the country.
Tensions between the police and Democracy Hub escalated on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, when the police secured an injunction from the Accra High Court to prevent the group from holding their 3-day protest at Revolution Square, located in front of the Jubilee House.
