Court restrains coronation of Mankralo in Teshie

An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday restrained the Kingmakers of Teshie to stop the outdooring of the new Mankralo on April 30 to avoid violence in the area.

The order also enjoins parties, servants and associates of the purported new Mankralo.

This follows an ex-parte motion for an order to stop the outdooring of the new Mankralo filed by the Police with a supporting letter from the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

Chief Inspector K. Adu told the court presided over by Francis Obiri that the elders of Teshie has not nominated or selected Mr Benjamin Nmai Sam-Sowah as the Mankralo of the area.

He said the issue of the Teshie Mankralo was currently before the Regional House of Chief at Dodowa for arbitration.

The Chief Inspector said per the directive, nobody was to hold himself at the Mankralo until deliberations of the facts finding committee into the matter were over.

He said it would be a security risk to allow the outdooring of any Mankralo as the timing was even against the public order Act. 1994.

“That the outdooring if allowed will endanger lives, public safety and also violate the right and freedom of other persons,” he added.

Chief Inspector Adu said a letter attached to the ex-parte indicated that the Regional House of Chiefs has set up a three-member fact finding committee to research into the Teshie Chieftaincy and find a lasting solution.

He said according to the letter one Henry Nii Sam-Sowah and Nmai Sam-Sowah (the Mankrolo) and a handful of persons were creating impediment for the committee.

The letter also stated that the coronation of Nmai Sam-sowah as the Mankralo should be stopped to avoid bloodshed that might lead to loss of lives and property.

The letter also suggested that these men have to appear before the committee to enable its work to be completed on schedule.
