Confusion hits Nduom’s PPP

A splinter group within the Progressive People’s Party called the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ on Tuesday converged at the party’s headquarters in Accra to stop a national committee meeting from taking place.

The group which is against the continues stay in office of the current executive of the PPP, said they were picketing around the office because they believe the executive body needs to be forced into relinquishing power to a new set of leaders.

“It’s very simple, we have a constitution that mandated them to stay in office for a period of time."

Three members of the PPP went to court seeking to challenge the current national executives whom they have accused of overstaying their term in office.

The plaintiffs argued that per the party’s constitution their tenure in office elapsed by December 2013.

According to the leader of the Coalition, Kwabena Octhere who spoke to Starr News reporter Papisdaff Abdulai, the court and the national advisory council of the party on separate occasions “ordered that the executives should stop holding meetings until the court decided on the case” he noted.

Kwabena Otchere also said “We are asking our national leaders to respect the constitution that we have all prescribed for ourselves and we don’t think that is too much to ask for. We will not wait for them to commit that illegality before we complain.”
